Epiktetos

Greek, active ca. 520–490 BC
BiographyEpiktetos was a Greek vase painter and one of the leading Red-figure vase painters of his era. His signature has been found on over 112 vases, as well as on many other plates and cups.

Epiktetos completed his artistic training in the workshop of Andokides, another Greek painter. Remarkably though, Epiktetos' works bear the most similarity to Psiax, a Greek painter who often collaborated with Andokides. His delicate depictions and precise lines closely resemble Psiax's style. Epiktetos' earliest works consist mainly of eye-cups, many of which are quite similar to the AMAM cup. His later works also include eye-cups, though by this later point he had abandoned his earlier decorative style in favor of a more free-form drawing style.
