On viewBetween 1966 and 1972, Davis used polyester resins and fiberglass to create geometric
shaped paintings. He was among other Southern California artists associated with the Light and Space movement who explored the artistic potential of new acrylic plastics used for surfboards, auto body manufacturing, and the aerospace industry. Davis also engaged with contemporary aesthetic debates—suggesting that a painting can be both a flat, illusionistic representation of deep space and simultaneously a sculptural object in actual space.
