Ko works with recycled paper, adding machine tape, rice paper, and other types of machine-rolled paper. She unwinds the paper and re-coils it into new forms, then bathes it in ink and graphite powder and allows it to dry over the course of months. During her training in Japan, she worked with sumi ink, which is made from burnt wood and glue. After moving to Maryland, she has continued to find inspiration in wood, trees, tree rings, and other natural forms such as roots and seeds.
