Using the demanding mezzotint printmaking technique, Hamanishi builds his images by first roughening a metal plate, then selectively smoothing areas to create rich gradients from pure black to white. This early work was part of a series of images of geometric wooden shapes draped with fabric, transforming simple objects into dynamic compositions. The title, Setsugo 接合, means "joining together."

The print showcases Hamanishi’s exceptional ability to capture light and shadow while exploring how objects relate to the space around them. Though the scene is still and contemplative, it vibrates with quiet energy—the taut fabric creates tension against the solid wooden forms beneath.
