A queer, Indigenous artist, Gibson combines bright colors, text fragments, House music, and other contemporary references, with Indigenous patterning and beadwork. His works dispel notions of Indigenous art and culture as static or vanquished. Gibson made this print of a tree-like spirit-face while in residence at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts on the Umatilla reservation in Oregon.
