Social activism, marginalized peoples, and animal rights have for decades been among the themes of Coe’s work, along with consumption, corruption, and the negative effects of capitalism. Here she addresses the Salvadoran Civil War, fought from 1979-1992 between the government of El Salvador and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), a coalition of left-wing groups. Ronald Reagan’s and Richard Nixon’s faces appear at left, above figures both tortured and killed.
