On viewReturning Sails at Yabase transforms Sòng Dí’s original theme of exile and dreams of return into a celebration of human activity at Lake Biwa’s ancient harbor, Yabase. During the Edo Period, Yabase was a crucial transport hub. The print combines traditional Japanese landscape art with European single-point perspective, reflecting the Edo period’s curiosity about foreign artistic techniques introduced through Dutch traders.
