Status
Not on viewSince he began photographing his native Mexico City in the mid-1980s, Gabriel Orozco has focused on the interrelationship between documentation and action, inspired by and executed within his immediate environment. In daily strolls about the city, Orozco captures with his camera the sights and scenes that catch his interest—often inanimate objects. In isolating these phenomena through his lens, Orozco highlights their morphological qualities, granting the everyday objects an elevated status. His deadpan approach and straight-on angles serve to estrange his objects, which become “incidental sculptures” found in nature. In Ball on Water, a white ball floating in a puddle resembles a glowing celestial orb.
